Movie Description: For a town like Hot Springs, Arkansas, The Majestic was more than just a hotel — it held an important place in the collective memory of the citizenry. Despite multiple owners and frequent promises to renovate, the building would sit empty and eventually catch on fire in 2014. Complicated and deeply personal, Forever Majestic considers the financial opportunity born of that fateful fire and questions who is best served by its demolition. W.R. Grace & Co. Zonolite Processing Plant - The former W.R. Grace & Co. “Zonolite” Vermiculite Expanding Plant in North Little Rock, Ar was built in 1953. This plant processed vermiculite that was shipped in from Libby, Montana. Zonolite is a highly toxic vermiculite insulation product mixed with asbestos that was produced from the 1940s until the 1990s. Put the Hot back in Hot Springs! – Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. In the Spring semester of 2021, the University of Arkansas’ Fay Jones School of Architecture + Design decided to help bring attention to a number of “at risk” structures in Hot Springs Arkansas. It was an honor to work with the Dean of Interior Design, Carl Matthews to produce this video which showcases the studio class, the many talented students and plans of how they would repurpose 5 historic buildings in Downtown. First Christian Church of Lonoke - For the first time in 15 years, the doors to the First Christian Church of Lonoke were opened. In collaboration with The Lonoke County Museum, and the current owner, one of our team members were allowed to come in and photograph the building. Coker Hotel - There are some buildings in this world that have a lot more than just 4 walls an opening date and some history. The Coker Hotel in Warren Arkansas may look like an old, abandoned building but the contents found within the structure and personal stories local residents have made here tells quite the story. This hotel once roomed some of Arkansas's uprising stars. Going upstairs one can still find records, a library, and multiple rooms still occupied with the memories of 20 years gone. Tamara Jolley of Warren has done a tremendous work and spent hours researching and selling the contents within this historic treasure. Donaghey Building - Little Rock’s First Skyscraper Plans to build this 14 story structure turned into a reality in 1925 as construction started on the newest addition to the Downtown area. Remnants from the last tenants can still be seen. The snack bar/smoothie shops equipment and signage, the doors with Law Office logos and papers and records from the church office can tell the story of what the final days must have looked like. We even found a series of “Donaghey Building” business cards on the 5th floor. Thank you to Newmark Moses Tucker Partners for allowing us to tour this magnificent building. We are hoping to see this place purchased and restored soon! Morris Booker Memorial College - Full Gallery & History in our bio Our 3rd location for Black History Month is from Dermott and the College has a dual history. Before its final name, the college was The Chicot County Training School. The single-story building was built in 1929 by funding from the Rosenwald Fund, a major philanthropic effort to improve educational opportunities for African-Americans. It is similar to other schools of the period, with banks of windows providing plentiful light to its seven classrooms. Sometime in the 1940s, an auditorium was added to the west side.
